Reign Tumble Against Midfielder Rose Lavelle, NJ/NY Gotham FC 2-0

Seattle's Three-Game Win Streak Snapped

The OL Reign's three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end on Saturday night as they fell 2-0 to NJ/NY Gotham FC at Lumen Field. The loss was the Reign's first at home this season and dropped them to 4-3-4 on the year. Gotham, meanwhile, improved to 5-3-4 with the victory.

The Reign were without several key players on Saturday, including forward Bethany Balcer and midfielder Jess Fishlock. But they still had plenty of chances to score, outshooting Gotham 14-8. However, they were unable to find the back of the net, and Gotham made them pay.

Lavelle's Brace Leads Gotham

Rose Lavelle was the star of the show for Gotham, scoring both of her team's goals. Her first came in the 35th minute when she took advantage of a Reign turnover and fired a shot from outside the box. The ball found its way through the hands of Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce and into the net.

Lavelle's second goal came in the 75th minute. This time, she was able to beat Tullis-Joyce with a header after getting on the end of a cross from Margaret Purce.

Takeaways from the Match

The loss was a disappointing one for the Reign, but there were still some positives to take away from the match. One was the performance of midfielder Olivia Athens. Athens started the match in place of Fishlock and played well, creating several chances for her teammates.

Another positive was the Reign's ability to generate chances. Despite missing some key players, they were still able to create a lot of opportunities. If they can continue to do that, they should be able to start putting more goals on the scoreboard.
