Trudeaus Trans Mountain Expansion Hasnt Delivered Tidewater Benefits

Trudeau’s Trans Mountain Expansion Hasn’t Delivered Tidewater Benefits

The Trans Mountain Expansion Project: A Promise Unfulfilled

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) project was supposed to bring economic benefits to the communities along the pipeline route and boost Canada’s oil exports. However, a new report by the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) reveals that the project has failed to deliver on its promises.

The PBO report found that the TMX project will not generate the promised economic benefits because the global demand for oil is declining. The report also found that the project will not increase Canada’s oil exports because there is already a lack of pipeline capacity to transport oil to tidewater.

Broken Promises

The TMX project was approved by the Trudeau government in 2016. At the time, the government claimed that the project would create 15,000 jobs and generate $4.5 billion in economic benefits. However, the PBO report found that the project will only create 5,000 jobs and generate $1.5 billion in economic benefits.

The Trudeau government also claimed that the TMX project would increase Canada’s oil exports by 500,000 barrels per day. However, the PBO report found that the project will not increase Canada’s oil exports because there is already a lack of pipeline capacity to transport oil to tidewater.

A Costly Failure

The TMX project is a costly failure that will not deliver on its promises. The project is expected to cost $12.6 billion, and it is unlikely to generate enough revenue to cover its costs. The project will also increase Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions and damage the environment.

The Trudeau government should cancel the TMX project and invest in renewable energy projects instead. Renewable energy projects are a cleaner and more sustainable way to meet Canada’s energy needs. They also create jobs and boost the economy.

Conclusion

The TMX project is a failed policy that will not deliver on its promises. The project will cost taxpayers billions of dollars and increase Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions. The Trudeau government should cancel the project and invest in renewable energy projects instead.
