Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito: A Conservative Force

Conservative Jurist Known for Landmark Rulings

OMRIəˈlːiːtoʊə-LEE-toh, born April 1, 1950, is an American jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court. Alito is known as a conservative jurist, and his rulings have often been supported by other conservative justices on the court. In his recent opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, Alito argued that the right to an abortion is not protected by the Constitution.

Landmark Rulings

One of Alito's most significant rulings was his opinion in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. In this case, Alito wrote the opinion that struck down limits on corporate spending in political campaigns. The ruling was controversial and has been criticized for allowing corporations to have undue influence in elections.

Alito has also written the opinion in several other landmark cases, including McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission, which struck down limits on individual contributions to political campaigns, and Shelby County v. Holder, which upheld the constitutionality of voter identification laws. These rulings have been praised by conservatives for promoting free speech and limiting government regulation.
