Anthony Davis Out Indefinitely with Back Injury
Lakers Star Suffers Setback in Regular Season Finale
Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis has been ruled out indefinitely with a back injury, the team announced on Tuesday.
Davis suffered the injury during the Lakers' final game of the regular season against the Memphis Grizzlies. He left the game in the first half and did not return.
An MRI exam on Monday revealed a Grade 2 strain of the lumbar spine. Davis is expected to miss at least the first round of the playoffs, which begin on Saturday.
The Lakers are already without LeBron James, who is recovering from a sprained ankle. The team's playoff hopes have taken a major hit with the loss of Davis.
Davis is averaging 23.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game this season. He is one of the most dominant big men in the NBA and his absence will be a major blow to the Lakers.
The Lakers will face the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors are the defending NBA champions and are considered one of the favorites to win the title this year.
Without Davis, the Lakers will be at a significant disadvantage against the Warriors. The team will need to find a way to make up for his production if they want to have any chance of advancing in the playoffs.
